5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!!   January 10, 2009

I am in love with my Kindle. I've had it I think about a year. When they first where available after Christmas last year.
I haven't read this much in YEARS. I hate holding books. I've always felt they where a pain to flip pages. Silly I know. I agree that the case these come with is definitely sub par. I have gotten a fat lip a few times from it. But I got the new case from M-edge and that problem is definitely fixed!
So I'm back to loving my Kindle!!! Definitely worth the price. I adore the whispernet and use it all the time. I had an rca ereader a long time ago and loved that even though it was very heavy. But it never got the books you wanted to read. And hardly ever got the top 20 books. So you where stuck reading older books. The kindle has most if not all of the new releases! ON the DAY they RELEASE!!!! It's amazing!!!
I'm getting my sister one for her Birthday!

4 out of 5 stars I own it! :)   January 10, 2009

I asked for this for Christmas, and I got it! I simply love my Kindle and it has changed how I do my reading (casual that is, I still have my textbooks!)

For a college student like me, the Kindle is a godsend. I have many books and love to re-read stories, but I have little room for spare books in my room. I also read a lot of manga (Japanese comics) and the grey scale in the Kindle is just lovely for this. I use a program to automatically resizes downloaded manga, and then I put it on my SD card as "pictures". Normal books, in .azw and .mobi books work just fine. As for the PDF issue, I use MobiPocket reader free software to convert the PDFs to a nice .mobi file for my Kindle.

Downloaded content (Wall Street journal for me) downloads great and I love it. I like not having to pay for the EV-DO, and the basic browser is great for reading articles on Wiki on the go.

I'll just list some pros and cons...

PROS:
-can support many file formats
-beautiful, glare-free screen
-SDHC card slot for more storage
-FREE Sprint EV-DO connection for downloads/basic web
-comfortable to hold
-portable!

CONS:
-price
-device sometimes feels a little "slow" and "sluggish" but honestly, it shouldn't matter much. You're reading after all!
-keypad input feels a little slow
-sometimes you have to reset it once in a great while (a little annoying)

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. The only down side is that it doesn't have a back light, so she has to have the lamp on when she reads and it keeps me awake.

I love my kindle! I just downloaded a new book by my fav author and saved over $20! The only drawback I'm having is when I'm reading in the Doctor's office I have so many people inquiring and asking for a demo I don't get a chance to read. I am finding the blogs extreamly useful with conversion info for my .lit and .pdf books and can't wait to get time to convert. My hubby, who got it for me, is looking forward to selling my extensive printed library on amazon and clearing out a lot of room in our home. If you read $5 paperbacks you won't find much of a savings but if you read author's who's book generally run over $20 you'll save a bundle, BIG TIME! From a person who spent easily over $1500 in printed matter last year, it's worth both the price and the wait time. One suggested improvement would be to put the 'back' button on top of the 'next' button, I find I'm constantly hitting it accidentally.
